Why join
Final Straw

Final Straw Cornwall is focused on the consumption of unnecessary single-use and virgin plastic by working with local businesses to help them find a better solution.

Before lockdown we campaigned along with other charities and successfully lobbied our MPs to bring about a UK wide ban on the use of single-use plastic straws, cotton buds and stirrers (some medical exemptions apply).

By 2019 we had 600 businesses signed up to going plastic free …and then COVID-19 struck.

With lack of information and unclear government guidance on PPE and Covid transmission, some businesses felt forced to go back to plastic – and  now single use PPE is one of the most commonly littered items in the UK & globally.

Now we have a new focus and we are determined to make Cornwall as plastic free as we can! And we need your help!

Continue your plastic free journey with us, and let’s see if we can get other single use plastic items out of circulation and clean up our Cornish beaches.

We are here to help you and your business and we will promote your efforts across our campaigns. And. it’s free to join! All you have to do is sign up to at least three of our Final Straw Cornwall pledges…

We are asking all businesses who would like to join us to sign up to as many pledges as possible, to reduce single-use plastics. Please sign up to at least three, including the Pledge 1: To remove all plastic straws and stirrers which is now a legal requirement for all businesses.

Find out more about our pledges and discover ideas on how to implement these changes into your business…

Plastic Free Cornwall

Single-use plastic will outlive everyone reading these words and harm not only marine life, but our own health too, as well as contributing to climate change. Let’s say No to single-use plastics – they are literally costing the earth..

We aim to raise awareness of the catastrophic damage we are doing to our oceans from our casual consumption of single use plastics and what positive actions we can take to make a difference. From changing our habits, upcycling, recycling to beach cleans, find out how you can help.

We aim to empower people to make positive changes and take action in making a better world; there is no ‘Planet-B’. We all have a responsibility to our planet and to future generations. If each individual makes a positive change, think about what we can do as a collective!

There are many other amazing campaigns and organisations with close synergy to Final Straw that do incredible work raising awareness of ecological and environmental crisis. We are proud to collaborate and work with some amazing groups. There is always strength in numbers and unity.
