Luxurious 4 star country house hotel the Budock Vean, has committed to stop using single-use plastic straws as part of The Final Straw Cornwall!
“Budock Vean Hotel has held the Green Tourism Gold Award for many years, and we’re proud of our green ethos. We installed 3 biomass boilers which take care of most of our energy usage, we compost our kitchen waste, we have recycling bags for guests to use in all hotel bedrooms, we keep our food miles down and source as much food as possible locally. We are located in 65 acres of organically maintained grounds leading down to the Helford River and taking care of our natural environment and minimising our impact on it is hugely important to us.
It was only natural that we extend our green thinking to banning the use of plastic straws in the hotel bars. We are trialling some reusable metal straws and have replaced plastic straws with paper ones. We hope businesses in Cornwall can join forces and set an example that the rest of the country can follow.
We’re proud to be part of this initiative – it’s such an important issue and if Cornwall can lead the way – hurrah!”
